Sermon Series: Spiritual Gifts
Sermon Title: Clothed With Power
The Lord is always faithful to provide, often in the most unexpected ways, just as the psalmist declared that God brings honey from the rockâsweetness and sustenance from the hardest places. Today, we witnessed a beautiful transition in our middle school ministry, as Andrew and Haley, who have faithfully pioneered and nurtured this work, passed the mantle to Tony and Julia. This is not just a change in leadership, but a testimony to Godâs ongoing work in raising up new leaders, dreamers, and risk-takers in our midst. We honor the faithfulness of those who have gone before and the courage of those stepping into new roles, trusting that Godâs anointing and blessing will rest upon them.
We are reminded that the Christian life is not meant to be lived in our own strength or by mere willpower. Jesus commanded His disciples to wait in Jerusalem until they were âclothed with power from on high.â This clothing is not about outward appearance, but about being covered, protected, and equipped by the Holy Spirit. The power of the Spirit is not a luxury for a select few, but a necessity for every believer who desires to live boldly and witness effectively. Without this divine empowerment, we cannot fulfill the Great Commission or stand against the opposition and spiritual challenges of our day.

The early church was marked by ordinary believers operating in extraordinary giftsânot for their own glory, but for the building up of the body and the salvation of the lost. The gifts of the Spirit are not relics of the past, nor are they mere spectacles for entertainment. They are tools for ministry, meant to reveal Christ, strengthen the church, and reach the lost. The Spiritâs work is both to sanctify usâsetting us apart and transforming usâand to empower us for mission. When the church is truly clothed with the Spirit, there is a noticeable difference: lives are changed, strongholds are broken, and the name of Jesus is boldly proclaimed.
We are called to hunger for the real things of God, to seek a fresh outpouring of the Spirit, and to allow the gifts to operate in and through us. The promise of the Father is still real, the clothing of the Spirit is still available, and the purpose is still urgentâJesus is coming back. It is time to move beyond lifeless Christianity and step into the bold, Spirit-empowered life God has for us. Let us open our hearts, receive the Spiritâs clothing, and become the witnesses and world-changers we are called to be.

Key Takeaways:
- 1. Unexpected Provision and the Power of Transition
God often brings provision and blessing from the most unlikely places, just as honey comes from the rock. In seasons of transition, such as the passing of leadership in ministry, Godâs faithfulness is revealed as He raises up new leaders and continues His work through willing vessels. Trusting God in these moments allows us to see His hand at work, both in the past and in the future He is preparing. [15:04]
- 2. The Necessity of Spiritual Empowerment
Jesus instructed His followers to wait until they were clothed with power from on high, emphasizing that human strength is insufficient for Godâs supernatural mission. The Holy Spiritâs empowerment is not optional; it is essential for living boldly, witnessing effectively, and overcoming spiritual opposition. Without this divine clothing, we risk settling for a powerless, indistinct Christianity that cannot transform lives or communities. [51:46]
- 3. Sanctification and Distinction in the Spirit
The Spiritâs work is not only to empower but also to sanctifyâto set us apart and make us holy. True evidence of the Spiritâs presence is a transformed life that looks, speaks, and acts differently from the world. If our faith does not produce visible change, we must examine whether we are truly allowing the Spirit to sanctify us and make us a distinct people for Godâs glory. [65:11]
- 4. Gifts as Tools, Not Toys
Spiritual gifts are not for personal entertainment or self-promotion, but are tools for evangelism and edification. When the gifts operate as God intends, Christ is revealed more clearly, the church is strengthened, and the lost are drawn to salvation. The measure of true spiritual activity is not excitement or spectacle, but the fruit of changed lives and the advancement of Godâs kingdom. [87:40]
- 5. Urgency of the Spirit-Filled Life
The promise of the Fatherâthe clothing of the Spiritâis still available and desperately needed today. As Jesusâ return draws near, it is urgent that we move beyond routine religion and lifeless ministry, embracing the Spiritâs power to break strongholds, heal, and deliver. Now is the time to surrender, receive the Spiritâs clothing, and become bold witnesses who bring hope and transformation to a broken world. [102:15]
